Privacy Policy
Your privacy is our priority. Read below to understand how your campus account, item reports, and claim history are handled on ReclaimX.
1. Information We Collect
ReclaimX collects minimal student information to facilitate matching and trust verification within our campus ecosystem:
Account Profiles: When signing in, we utilize Firebase Auth tokens to store your name, email address, profile photo (optional), and campus identifier.
Item Listings: When reporting lost or found property, we store the item name, general category, general campus zone, date last seen, and an uploaded image.
Verification Logs: We store secret questions set by lost item owners and the answers submitted by claimants during the ownership matching flow.
2. How We Use Data
Collected information is used exclusively to operate and secure the campus matching service:
Matching Engine: Category, name similarity, and location zones are cross-referenced to automatically flag possible matching pairs.
Trust Score Ratings: Complete handovers (+10) and failed claim attempts (-5) are logged to automatically calculate trust score rankings (Gold, Silver, Bronze) to deter spam.
Ownership Verification: Answer submissions are compared on the server to help owners identify the correct claimant.
3. Zero Commercial Sharing
Your data is never sold, leased, or rented. ReclaimX is an academic project built strictly to serve campus communities. We do not participate in marketing campaigns, run advertisement networks, or share user lists with third-party brokers.
Contact Info Restrictions: Your email address is kept hidden from other users. It is only shared with the finder or owner of an item after a claim is verified, allowing coordination of the physical handback.
4. Data Security
We implement multiple layers of security to defend student data against unauthorized access:
Sensitive Data Masking: A backend middleware actively blocks any postings that contain Aadhaar, PAN cards, or phone numbers, preventing private identifiers from leaking into public feeds.
Row Level Security (RLS): The database layer utilizes strict RLS rules in PostgreSQL, preventing users from altering other users' claims or reports.
5. Liability Disclaimer (Safe Harbor)
ReclaimX is an educational sandbox platform provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" for portfolio and demonstration purposes. We make no representations or warranties regarding database uptime, matching engine accuracy, or recovery rates. By using the app, you agree that the creators of ReclaimX are not responsible for any personal property loss, data loss, or physical safety during handovers.
